Bidding
Why was there a Catawiki charge on my credit card?

Why do I sometimes need to reserve bids on my credit card?

For some objects we might reserve a payment on your credit card when you place a bid. Don’t worry, we’ll always ask first. This can happen for several reasons:

  1. You haven’t purchased anything with us

  2. Your account is missing important info

  3. You’re bidding on multiple objects at once and the total of all bids is over €1.000

You can read more information about this bidder guarantee here.

What happens if I increase my bid on a high value object?

The amount reserved on your card will increase to match your bid. This caps at €1,000, which is the max amount we'll reserve on a card at any time regardless of how much you bid or how many objects you're bidding on at once. For other currencies, we’ll use the equivalent amount to €1.000.

What happens to the reserved amount if I’m not the top bidder at the end of an auction?

The reserved payment is usually released within a week after the auction ends if you didn’t place the top bid. The amount of time it takes for your funds to become available again depends on your bank.

What happens to the reserved amount if I am the top bidder at the end of the auction?

We’ll deduct this amount from your final invoice, and you can then pay the rest by heading to the orders page from your account. Make sure you pay the rest within 3 business days.

The amount we reserve will be the same as your bid amount, unless you bid over €1,000. For bids above €1,000, we’ll reserve €1,000.

What happens to the reserved amount if I‘m the top bidder and the sale is cancelled?

If for some reason the sale is cancelled, the amount will be released within 10 business days of the auction ending.

What happens to the reserved amount if I‘m the top bidder and don’t pay on time?

The auction fees (up to €1.000) will be charged to your card. Any remaining amount of the reserved payment will be released.
