Not Her First Rodeo: Banksy Print Goes up for Auction

Rare Banksy print from 2008 to hit auction on Catawiki

Rodeo Girl print up for auction without a reserve price on Catawiki from the 12th April to 22nd ofApril

Catawiki reveals people from Belgium and Italy are most likely to search for Banksy on the marketplace

Amsterdam, 10 April - Hot off the heels of the new Banksy mural in London's Finsbury Park, Catawiki, the leading online marketplace, reveals that a rare, limited edition Banksy print will be up for auction with no reserve price from the 12th April to 22nd of April.

The print, gifted to artists who joined Banksy's Cans Festival in 2008, was not originally meant to be up for sale. In 2008, 40 of the world’s best stencil artists were brought together to create artworks in a road tunnel in central London, and Banksy produced the prints exclusively for attending artists. The Rodeo Girl was printed in 40 copies only, unnumbered, each signed and individually dedicated.

Catawiki’s Street Art Expert, Egidio Emiliano Bianco, commented, “This print is truly a rarity as it remains outside of the artist's commercial work. Since 2008 it has only been auctioned a few times on the world art market, but this will be the first time without a reserve price: a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!”

Catawiki also revealed that people from Belgium and Italy are most likely to search for Banksy on the marketplace. And this won’t be the first Banksy print sold on Catawiki. In 2020, a coloured print of Trolleys fetched €20.000 on the platform, and this last March a Banksy Balloon Tee was sold for €10.000 - only a few of those were ever seen on the market. This time, however, Banksy’s Rodeo Girl will be auctioned without a reserve price and with an estimate of €15.000 - 20.000.

Banksy’s print is part of an auction curated in partnership with Inward, the Italian National Observatory on Urban Creativity, featuring some of the best representations of urban creativity in Italy. The auction, live from the 12th April to 22nd of April, will be presented during Creatività Urbana and Mercato Digitale in Naples on the 12th of April, at 16.30 at the Fondazione Foqus Quartieri Spagnoli. During the event hosted by Inward, Art department Lead Veronica De Vincentis and Street Art Expert Egidio Emiliano Bianco will discuss Catawiki’s role in opening a digital market for Italian street art. The talks will be joined by local art community names such as Annalisa Ferraro, Roberto Colantonio, and IABO.

The auction features promising names of urban creativity in Italy, such as Truly Design Artist, Danilo Neve Psitone, Orticanoodles, Giulio Rosk, Mart Signed, Corn 79 Artisti, among others, and will be live from 12.00 PM CET, Friday 12th April to 8.01 PM CET, Monday 22nd of April.
