I don’t have any experience selling objects – what do I absolutely need to know?

Selling with Catawiki could be a great opportunity to generate additional income and help your special object find a new home. It’s a simple process and we’ve even put together a step-by-step guide on how to sell with Catawiki.

Before submitting your objects, make sure to review what objects could be sold on Catawiki and consider: Does the object tell a story? Does the current or previous owner of the object have a story? At Catawiki, special objects are by definition hard to find, limited in availability, difficult to price and mostly sold offline.

Are there any examples of buyers that have become sellers?

Rare and old books are popular on Catawiki

Meet Giorgio Salce, based in the little Italian town of Brisighella. He joined CW in early 2020 as a buyer and started to selling incunabula and early printing (pre-1600) books around March the same year. His decision to sell wasn't off the back of some inspired change in his professional life – he simply saw an easy opportunity to make some money.  "I just realised that I had a certain amount of books that I would gladly part with," he explains. "In exchange for fair remuneration".

He acknowledges that his introduction to Catawiki and its vetting process was a learning curve, but has since been able to really up the quality of what he sells and improve his sales with the experts' guidance. "Catawiki experts have a rather decisive approach with newbies," he says. "I complained, I protested, then I understood and - voilá – I made a big leap in quality. If I look back to my first presentations I'm ashamed! I've since learned that beautiful photos and an accurate and captivating description are the secrets to success."

As for advice he has to share with any prospective sellers that were previously buyers, Giorgio says it's really about knowing the platform, your speciality and audience.  "You need to accept the rules of Catawiki to grow professionally," he explains. "Over the course of these two years, the thing I've understood is that – quality and prices aside – everything is played out in the relationship with customers (and feedback counts). Once you have this, establish what makes your object unique and beautiful. Then anything is possible."
